The Starliner caravan has a large following of fans throughout NZ where it is admired for it's distinctive shape. Originally manufactured in Christchurch from 1959 to 1966, production came to an abrupt halt when fire destroyed the Starliner factory and nearly all the moulds.

A chance find on Trade Me led us to a paddock in Te Anau, Fiordland where we found a 1959 model Starliner sitting in a dismal state.

The plan was hatched and a slow trip was made back to Queenstown where a few repairs were carried out before sending it on the way to our friend John in Otautau for a complete restoration.

John got to know this little van pretty closely over the next 3 years and through his talents, restoration contacts, quality of workmanship and above all his admirable patience, our humble little caravan was transformed into Star Bar.

The factory stamp on the draw bar tells us Star Bar was originally the 79th 12 foot long caravan to be produced by Starliner Caravans in Christchurch in 1959.

Star Bar is proudly owned by Brad and Sarah Gutschlag, with daughter Ella at the helm of bookings and enquiries.
